We woke at 545am and hopped in Lani's jeep and Jake's truck and drove 90 minutes, up the canyon (mountain!!) to Huntsville, Utah for their July 4 celebration. This town has a huge park in the center of town and one gas station, one small grocery store and one bar. (Actually stayed open during prohabition!!!). We joined Lani's family of 14 and walked to the park to have a pancake breakfast. Next, the whole town lined the street for the parade. After a little rest and lunch, we walked back to the park to people watch and enjoy the cotton candy, dunk tank, and balloon hats.
After an awesome cookout dinner and birthday cake, and a little wrestling with the kids in the yard, we lined our chairs on the road to watch the fireworks. We watched people drive by in cars, 4 wheelers an even horses. Yes, they use horses and a mode of transportion. Kinda cool!!!
As soon as they were over, we jumped in our cars and headed over the mountain to their house. Now, we are in a jeep, headed over a mountain, at 11 pm. I was a little nervous. It ended up being an amazing ride... And hour on a gravel road, through meadows, with lots of deer and one MOOSE!!! Yep. A moose walked right out in from of us. Amazing. We arrived home at 1230 and fell into bed!! That was a very long day, but lots of new experiences for us. I think this will be a birthday Rachel will never forget!!!!
